What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering?

Without a doubt, my desire to contribute to our society on a global level. I believe that an engineering education prepares one to have a cognitive mindset focused on problem solving. I love electrical engineering because of the importance and impact of all electrical phenomena in society, especially power generation and the technological advancements it brings.

How did you join Sener?

I joined Sener in July 2012, through Willian Kamazaki (HI Section manager) who offered me to be part of the team. I accepted the invitation because the company met my expectations, i.e. that it would allow me to contribute significantly to society by facing complex challenges. When I joined Sener, I was the IRD of very innovative projects, such as the monorails of São Paulo’s lines 15 and 17. After these projects, new and ever more complex challenges will allow me to continue learning and staying motivated.

What business area are you in? What is your day-to-day life like?

I work in the Mobility area, I am a graduate in the ETR discipline and in the 0Q02 HI section in Brazil, I am a Project Manager on Line 6 in São Paulo. My daily work consists of solving complex and varied problems, always trying to increase the efficiency of the project. In my opinion, the most important thing is to understand how to optimize the project organization to meet the needs of the stakeholders with the best economic result. In reality, I feel like an orchestra conductor, a facilitator who allows the engine (team) to run in the best possible way and keep moving in the right direction.

What has been your progression since you joined Sener? What are the most outstanding projects you are currently working on?

When I started working at Sener, I was IRD on many projects from 2012 to 2015. In 2016, I was transferred to Sener’s Barcelona office in Cerdanyola del Vallés, where I worked as Specialist Engineer for the Doha Depot project in Qatar and as IRD for the Kakinada Port project in India. In 2018, I moved to the Doha front office in Qatar, and the same year I returned to São Paulo as project manager of Metro Fortaleza. I then became part of the São Paulo Metro Line 6 project, where I am currently working as PD. In summary, in the eleven years that I have been with Sener, I have been involved in 21 mobility project references as IRD, Specialist Engineer and DP.

How do you think the projects you work on influence the current/future world or society?

All the projects I have been involved in at Sener contribute in a very important way to the society in which they are implemented. This is the case of the current project I am working on, Line 6 of the São Paulo Subway, which will have a great positive impact on the city. It is expected to transport approximately 633 thousand people per day, reducing travel time from 1 hour and 30 minutes to only 23 minutes, connecting the region from Bario Liberdade (São Joaquín Station) to Bario Brasilândia (Brasilândia Station). It is the first public-private partnership (PPP) to include construction and operation.

How do you keep up to date with the general knowledge and trends in your sector?

As for project management, which I am still learning, I think it should be a constant for all professionals who want to be in a process of continuous improvement, always studying to be up to date. Therefore, I believe that in the future I will do a doctorate with a focus on management. I am also a member of PMI, where I participate very actively in events, especially training events, and I am also aware of the main publications in the field of project management by PMI and also by Harvard Business Review. Right now we have a technological disruption in terms of Artificial Intelligence, I am sure it is an opportunity to greatly increase our productivity, improve our efficiency and consequently improve our results. That is what I expect, I think the impact will be rapid and very powerful.

In your opinion, what distinguishes Sener from other companies in the sector?

I believe that Sener has a clear preference from our customers in general, I have been involved in many bids and the feedback I get when I am in direct contact with customers makes me believe in this. I also believe that Sener has a strong commitment to find the best solution for our customers’ needs, with our multicultural teams distributed globally and with great capacity, we are experts in what we do and we face all the challenges that the projects bring to us. In Line 6, for example, the image and trust that our customer has in Sener was the key to winning this contract.

What new challenges do you see yourself working on in the medium term?

I´d love to face new challenges and I enjoy that they do become more complex. I like to add maximum value to the company and to add value in the best possible way to increase optimal results. In addition to projects, in the medium term I would like to contribute to the corporate and operational management of the organization.
