At Sener we have been involved in the identification and evaluation of potential sites for offshore wind farms in Chilean waters, based on the analysis and assessment of a set of criteria that determine the viability of this type of facility at the technical (construction and operation), legal, environmental and economic levels.

Scope

Identification of data sources and the analysis of this information.

Preliminary analysis of the area of interest

in order to identify the sites with the greatest potential for the location of offshore wind farms.

Definition of exclusion criteria and interference analysis.

Determination of feasible areas for offshore wind energy and its potential capacities.

Execution of a multi-criteria analysis to identify the best areas

The scoping project also included the identification of constraints and opportunities to be considered for future offshore wind projects in Chilean waters, and the analysis of regulatory procedures to which offshore wind farms would be subjected in Chile, specifically in the Strait of Magellan.
