Abu Dhabi Light Rail Transit/Tram

Sener is developing a world class Light Rail Transit System for the city of Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) with special attention to the weather conditions of the Region and its Cultural Heritage. The Abu Dhabi LRT conforms the delivery of a world class transportation system to Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP) findings identified the need for rail public transport systems along the main travel corridors in Abu Dhabi. Such rail public transport is required to supply additional transportation network capacity to relieve growing traffic congestion in high demand corridors.

Sener is responsible for the project management. Nowadays the Phase 1 is finished, and it lasted 16 months. Sener also ended the Phase 2, which covers the preliminary design of the first section of the network and is located in the center of the island, giving service to consolidated areas and the most important urban development’s being carried out right now. The LRT will have a length of 50 km, with 77 stations and designed for max. circulation speed of 80 kmph.

Considerations to be included in the LRT/Tram network design considered the latest, proven, cutting edge technologies, and the specific characteristics of the region.
