This year, the Engineering and Progress Award has been granted to the Catalonia Offshore Energy Research and Development Platform (PLEMCAT). This initiative will enable the creation of a floating offshore wind farm in the Gulf of Roses and the development of this technology to contribute to Catalonia’s energy transition.
The jury praised the commitment to this technology and the leadership shown by civil engineers in the teams of the companies developing the prototypes. The award is jointly presented to the Catalan Institute for Energy (Institut Català de l’Energia) and the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya) as promoters, and to the companies Sener & WindWaves, Esteyco, and X1 Wind as developers of the floating platform technology.
Additionally, the Ildefons Cerdà Medal has been awarded this year to two leading figures in the fields of mobility and infrastructure: Marisa Domínguez, for her leadership in the development and management of railway infrastructure—highlighting her efforts in fostering female talent—and TRAM, Barcelona’s tram system, which celebrates two decades of public service.
Meanwhile, the Caminos Futuro Award, which recognises the best master’s dissertation by Civil Engineering students from the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering, has been awarded to Mireia López Paredes for a study applying artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to the predictive maintenance of breakwaters.
With these awards, the Association reaffirms its commitment to recognising professionals and initiatives that contribute to making engineering a tool for progress, sustainability and social cohesion.
