Plan to reduce CO₂ emissions of a multinational window manufacturing company

Given the growing demand from the manufacturing industry to reduce CO₂ emissions in their production processes to achieve elimination and/or capture, we met with a client who had the need to disconnect the gas system of their plants and replace it with an efficient and sustainable source of energy.

Solution

At Sener, we performed an optimised sizing of the system across 4 client plants based on their energy demand. This is achieved through a comprehensive analysis of the available operational data and with support from the plant operations personnel.

We characterised each thermal consumption to evaluate the most suitable technologies for each case and detect inefficiencies in energy management, including the analysis of specific thermal consumptions and their simultaneities throughout the year, aimed to understand current power requirements of the plant and propose configurations with thermal storage that result in the lowest investment cost for thermal generation systems.
Additionally, we provided recommendations for improvements and generation solutions based on various market-available technologies, considering energy consumption/savings (electricity, natural gas, etc.) and preliminary project CAPEX.

Based on this study, we developed a Sustainability Conceptual Engineering focusing on fuel substitution, considering different alternatives:

The availability of alternative energy sources and site-specific conditions.
Cost and emissions reductions.
Estimated payback.

Additionally, we provided technical specifications for third-party project execution for these 4 installations, as well as 2 additional sites where the energy mix solution was already predetermined by the client.

Expected outcomes

CO₂ emissions are expected to be reduced by more than 95%,

leaving the natural gas connection only as a back-up in the event of any emergency.
