Amine and sulfur recovery plant for Repsol in Puertollano (Spain), Sener’s first refinery contract

FORAN, the CAD/CAM/CAE system for marine design and construction created by Sener in the 60s as an in-house tool, secures its first contract outside of Sener with the Bazán (now Navantia) shipyard.

Sener undertakes work on the projects for the Bilbao, Barcelona and Valencia metros. These are its first urban transport projects.

Sener joins the European consortium working on the development of the EJ 200 engine for the multirole Eurofighter/Typhoon fighter aircraft, beginning its operations in the field of aeronautics.

Commercial operation of the Zabalgarbi municipal solid waste treatment plant in Bilbao (Spain). This plant, promoted by Sener, uses the company’s own technology, the SENER-2 process, a high-efficiency thermodynamic cycle that improves the energy conversion of waste and optimizes the resistance of equipment to corrosion. As well as designing and patenting the process, Sener was responsible for the turnkey construction of the plant.

Sener opens its complex in Madrid?the Integration and Testing Center, a state-of-the-art plant for production activities such as the assembly of electronic parts; mechanical assemblies and subassemblies; final integration; and vibration, temperature and functional tests. The mechanisms developed in SENER’s new Integration and Testing Center can be applied to aeronautics (flight control), space (satellites, spacecraft and payloads), propulsion (engine nozzles, thrust vector control), industrial products (for example, actuator mechanisms for thermosolar plants) and healthcare technology.

AE Systems (UK) implements FORAN for use in the series of HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carriers and the series of Successor submarines for the British Navy.

Sener begins to supply systems for the manufacture and assembly of composite material structures for aeronautical use, with an initial project for the Boeing 787 airliner.

Sener opens a permanent office in Mexico, a country with extensive possibilities in the area of infrastructures. Mexico soon becomes one of the most important countries for Sener in terms of both the volume of project contracts and number of professionals.

The Barcelona metro’s L9, which is Europe’s longest driverless line, and the international high-speed rail connecting Perpignan and Figueras between France and Spain, have both commenced operations. SENER has played a comprehensive role in both projects, handling everything from design through to certification and commissioning.

Sener is awarded the comprehensive engineering contract for the repair and modernization of the Argentine Navy’s ?Almirante Irízar’ icebreaker ship (RHAI) after the vessel was damaged by fire during an Antarctic campaign. This project is one of the most important marine engineering projects to be carried out in Argentina in the last 25 years.

Sener establishes a presence in the United Arab Emirates with an office located in Abu Dhabi.

Opening of Gemasolar, the first commercial power plant in the world capable of 24-hour uninterrupted production using solar energy, owned by Torresol Energy and with technology designed by SENER, which also performed its turnkey construction.

Sener establishes a presence in South Korea with a branch office located in Busan, in response to the country’s growing importance in the marine sector.

Sener opens a branch office in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, mainly for the purpose of carrying out transport and industrial infrastructure projects, as well as work in the area of aeronautics. 

Sener engineering of a stern trawler for China National Fisheries Corp. This is the company’s first marine engineering contract in the country.

Start of the construction of NOORo in Morocco, the largest solar complex on earth, made with technology created by Sener, which is also a member of the turnkey construction consortium.

Our initial sale of AUTOPLAK, an automated device for inoculation and seeding in labs, has been achieved. This product was developed by Sener Diagnostics, our subsidiary dedicated to marketing healthcare technology solutions.

Sener is awarded the marine engineering contract for a 1,200-passenger ferry vessel. It is the company’s first marine engineering contract in South Korea.

Sener is appointed the main contractor for the Proba-3 space mission for the demonstration of formation flying technologies. For Spain, this contract represents an important milestone in the aerospace sector as it is the only European Space Agency (ESA) mission to date in which a Spanish company, SENER, is the main contractor of the entire program and leader of a consortium of European companies from over 10 countries.

Sener confirms its international expansion in the transport infrastructures sector with projects in Europe, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, North Africa, and the Middle East, including such noteworthy endeavors as the Toluca-Mexico City passenger train, the Guadalajara metro in Mexico, and the metros in Riyadh and Doha (Saudi Arabia), Dubai and Abu Dhabi (UAE).

It is located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Spain) and it is a Sener project.

The inauguration of the thermosolar plant NOORo I took place in Ouarzazate, within the NOORo solar complex, which, once completed, will be the largest on the planet. The event was presided over by King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

We were the promoters and founders of ITP (Industria de Turbo Propulsores) in 1989. After 27 years of supporting ITP’s long-term investment and technology development, we are now focusing our efforts on our core engineering business and consolidating our international strategy. 

Sener is a member of the consortium that won the Engineering Delivery Partner (EDP) contract for the HS2 project in the United Kingdom.

Enrique de Sendagorta Aramburu, who founded Sener and served as its Honorary President, as well as President of the Sener Foundation, passed away on 5 January.

Torresol Energy, dedicated to the construction, operation, and maintenance of large-scale thermoelectric solar power plants, is marking its 10th anniversary. The company is jointly owned by Sener with a 60% stake and Masdar with a 40% stake.

It have been 10 years since the opening of the first Sener delegation in the United States with the opening of its first office in the country.

March signifies the 50th anniversary of the inaugural rocket launch from the Kiruna launch tower in Sweden, which was also Sener’s first contract in the space sector.

Andrés Sendagorta, hitherto Vicepresident of Sener, is the Group’s new President, taking over from Jorge Sendagorta, who will continue to be linked to the Sener Group as its Honorary President.

We have developed RESPIRA®, an AI-based system aimed at optimizing ventilation efficiency in buildings and complex infrastructures. We’ve entered into a collaboration agreement with Ferrocarril y Metropolità de Barcelona (FMB) to enhance air quality and passenger comfort in the Barcelona Metro.

We are members of the consortium tasked with launching BENORTH2, the first green hydrogen facility in Amorebieta, Vizcaya, Spain, which will make optimal use of existing infrastructure. The companies responsible for its development and initiation are White Summit, CCI, Nortegas, Bizkaia Energy, and Sener.

Q-Energy has acquired 100% of Torresol Energy from Sener and Masdar. Torresol Energy is the owner of the Gemasolar, Valle 1, and Valle 2 solar power plants, which utilize proprietary technology from Sener. Since their commissioning in 2011, these three thermoelectric plants have demonstrated outstanding operational performance. 

SATNUS is a joint venture established by Sener, GMV, and TECNOBIT aimed at developing new technologies for unmanned vehicles. Through SATNUS, these three partners will coordinate the technological aspects related to remote operators for the European FCAS (Future Combat Air System) programme. 

Sener Aerospace invests in cutting-edge production and testing equipment at its facilities in Cerdanyola del Vallès. With over 1,000 square metres dedicated to these advanced rooms, Sener Aerospace positions itself among the top European companies in the Space, Defence, and Science sectors.

Siemens acquires the FORAN ship design and engineering software from Sener, which was conceived and developed over more than five decades. 

The Cebu Cordova Link Expressway opened on Wednesday, April 27, in Cebu, Philippines. Sener, in a joint venture with CFC, was responsible for the detailed design of the entire Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway project, which includes the Cebu cable-stayed bridge, an iconic structure on this road. 

Sener, present in Australia through transport infrastructure projects, has signed an agreement to acquire 60% of the Australian consulting firm Tactix, with the aim of becoming a key player in the Australian transport sector.

The new design maintains some elements from the previous one, such as the corporate colour and the four elements, representing its traditional areas of activity – aerospace, infrastructure, energy and marine – which in recent years have been joined by other areas, such as digital and diagnostics.

Sener is expanding its portfolio by entering the data center market through this acquisition. This move allows Sener to leverage its significant expertise in integrating complex technological systems and to address the substantial energy demands of data processing facilities.

The quantum communications laboratory, set to evolve into the Photonics Technology Center, is committed to excellence in research and technological development. Its mission includes conceiving innovative ideas, producing cutting-edge technology, promoting and disseminating knowledge, applying scientific insights, and exploiting technological advancements within the photonics field.

Sener is establishing a high-performance technology center dedicated to the design and development of electronic and radiofrequency components and subsystems for space and defense antennas, driven by the growth in the Aerospace and Defense sector and the need for skilled professionals in the Communications field.

Gabriel will be responsible, along with Sener’s CEO, of leading and coordinating the global strategy of Sener and will seek to promote synergies between the various business areas of Sener.

One of the variants of the Hypogea system developed and patented by Sener was designed and built at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium of Real Madrid CF.

Sener hosted its 5th biannual monographic meeting on the future of innovation, gathering over 200 professionals for a two-day event. Discussions focused on key emerging technological disruptions in fields like autonomous navigation, connectivity amidst current geopolitical scenarios, 5G, AI, and renewable energy development, alongside the role of research and development in these sectors.

The new facilities will house an industrial production and engineering services center for the aerospace market. The first phase of the project includes an area of 8,000 square meters building, 4,000 square meters of which will bededicated to industrial production.

Sener is strengthening its foothold in Australia by opening a new office in Sydney, marking its seventh location in the country. The company anticipates doubling its workforce over the next three years, expecting to have over 250 employees by 2023. This expansion is fueled by Sener’s global expertise in high-speed projects and energy-efficient solutions.

The new purpose, “To transform the world by challenging the boundaries of technology”, is the result of a joint reflection process that reflects Sener’s ambition to generate positive impact through solutions to the most technically complex challenges of its clients, based on the innovation and technological excellence.

The incorporation of SCR will allow Sener to strengthen its value proposition in the field of remote operators and autonomous navigation, where it already has considerable experience in national and international programmes.

The leading data center design and engineering firm in Southern Europe is moving forward with its international growth plan with the opening of new offices in Spain and Germany, having been awarded its first contracts in France and Germany.

The office is focus mainly on the design and development of guidance, navigation and control (GNC) systems and systems engineering for the aerospace and defence markets.

On 5 December, ESA’s Proba-3 mission was successfully launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (India). As prime contractor, Sener led the development of the Proba-3 mission system design in close collaboration with an industrial consortium of more than 29 companies from 17 different countries.
