Main technical characteristics:

  • Light Rail network initially comprised of four lines with a total length of 68 km (6,5 km tunnel) and 71 stations (10 underground). It serves seven of the nine municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of Oporto, and is connected to the international airport of Pedras Rubras.
  • Power supply: 750 VDC.
  • Rolling stock: 72 “Eurotram 2000” vehicles.

As leader of the ENSITRANS, AEIE group, Sener was in charge of the Technical Assessment, which included, in the initial stage, the drafting of the technical and economic feasibility studies, drafting of the reliminary design for international call for tenders for “Design and Build, Operate and Transfer”, assessment of bids and subsequent negotiation of the BAFO. In the building phase (as of Mar/99) SENER was in charge of the management and revision of the detailed design, supervision of the manufacture and assembly of the rolling stock, and technical assistance in the system certification process.
